Hardware Acceleration Error

by MrStraightface » Wed Jan 18, 2017 8:48 pm

After upgrading to 4.0.1 I am getting this error:

'hardware acceleration could not be initialized and video playback performance may be impacted. this can occur when operating over software such as remote desktop. if encountered under other circumstances please select help, report a problem or email support'

Win 2008r2

i didn't see any other posts. any ideas why this popped up?

I also get this error with 4.1 and did with 4.0
I am running Windows 2012R2.
I use a HP Microserver and I am presuming the error relates to the lack of a high end video card?
I do use RDP to connect as well, but always have done, it wasn't until v4.0 that the problem appeared.
The update log says they have implemented 'Hardware Acceleration'

Is it correct that you are not running under any Remote Desktop or VNC style software, or within a virtual machine, but are instead on a native system itself?

The accelerated video playback in SV4.0 requires support for OpenGL 2 and above which was released in 2004. This should generally not be an issue for the video card in any machine capable of running Sighthound Video.

Please let us know what video card you are running and if possible the driver version as well. It is likely that updating your video card's driver may correct this. Updating drivers have fixed all reported cases aside from 3 users - a 10+ year old ATI card, an onboard card from 2009 and an onboard card from 2007.

@RikWebb - do you see the message only when using remote desktop, or when on the physical machine as well?

Thanks. I was getting the error via RDP and locally.

I did fix it however on the local machine, but it still happens when I remote in.

I am running a Geforce 7950 GT ( ) and had no Nvidia drivers installed. I grabbed driver version 9.18.13.623.

Appreciate the response.
