Recommendation on a good standalone machine?

by thesillyrabbit » Sat Jan 14, 2017 11:44 am

My MAC 1,1 tower running OS 10.7 is finally dying (and unsupported) any recos on a good little standalone PC or linux machine setup to just run sighthound. 4-6 cams max.

Thanks

I'd get a Mac Mini at a good price. They are plenty powerful to run Sighthound Pro and they are virtually silent with low energy consumption. Any Mac Mini with an i7 Quad Core processor and 16GB ram will work to run 10 cams at HD quality. Fusion Drive will help with performance if you can swing it. I use an external 16 TB Thunderbolt hard drive for recording to, but USB 3.0 or Firewire will work. These Mac Mini computers will run between 1200-2k right now.

For PCs I had a really powerful i7 Quad Core 32GB ram Gamer computer running Sighthound Pro. It was flawless with up to 15 cameras at HD quality. It's just way louder unless you get a liquid cooled case and put it in a closet. I got mine off Newegg.com. Just do a search for i7 Gamer computers and you will see many for around 1k.
