Hi Ben,

Release notes can always be found at https://www.sighthound.com/support/release-notes, I've included the 4.0 notes below. 4.0 is still rolling out, you should see it in your auto-updater soon but can of course always download and install directly from https://www.sighthound.com/account/#/ac ... t=download

Sighthound Video 4 has been re-architected to significantly enhance performance when recording from H264 sources. In these cases the software uses on average 60% less CPU than version 3.0 even when recording full 30 frames per second frame rates.

For H264 IP cameras:

  • Audio support for cameras that use the AAC codec.
  • Significantly improved CPU performance when recording H264 streams.
  • Reduced disk bandwidth and file storage size for most streams.
  • Video is recorded at full frame rate, no longer limited to 10fps.

Other improvements:

  • Accelerated video player.
  • Improved accuracy and efficiency of human detection engine.
  • Expanded camera compatibility through updated ONVIF support.
  • Support for reversing sort order of search results list.
  • Controls for enabling timestamps and object boxes in remote access and clip export.

Not overly impressed with this update, wouldn't have thought it rated a new version number, just a sub-version.
Appears to be a little quicker, yet to find out about the detection engine.
US$50 is a lot to pay for a minor upgrade.

Regards

I have to disagree about this not being a large improvement. My cpu usage alone dropped from around 85% average to closer to 40% to 45% on average for my 8 hd cameras. That alone to me is worth the price of admission. I was pretty much cpu bound to not being able to add any further cameras and now with the extra headroom I should have enough machine to add several more without issue. It is also more responsive browsing the clips and all of my webclients as well.

I had been running it on a VM on an esxi server which was on an AMD 8150 with all 8 cores dedicated to the VM with windows 10. I continued to have issues with CPU spikes and found it was related to it running on the esxi so about 3 months ago I moved it to another stand alone machine. Now it is on a i5-3570 clocked at 4.2 or so. It has 24gb of memory and it does have an SSD for the os drive, but the storage for Sighthound is still on a spindle hdd. It is running Windows 10 and the machine also runs Blue Iris. So dropping from 85 to 45 is not completely accurate because around 10 to 20 percent of the cpu is used by Blue Iris. If Blue Iris wasn't running it would be around 70 to 75 percent and now I'm getting 20 to 25 on average with just Sighthound.
