Frames per second (fps)

by teladog01 » Wed Dec 28, 2016 2:39 am

I see one of the new features for Sighthound 4.0 is "Video is recorded at full frame rate, no longer limited to 10fps" for h.264 streams.

Does Sighthound actually take advantage of the increased FPS for it's processing algorithms? More specifically, will increasing the FPS increase Sighthound's detection accuracy? Or is the higher frame rate simply passed on to the end result video clip for smoother video?

Moreover, should I change my cameras to stream at higher than 10 fps now?

A higher fps likely will not result in a noticeable change in performance of the detection algorithms, it is primarily an aesthetic one. However, boosting the fps from 10 to 30 should result in very minimal CPU change for recording video so I would recommend it.
