enable/disable rules based on whether I'm home?

by nunuvyurbiz » Mon Nov 28, 2016 1:52 pm

Is there any clever solution to enable/disable rules based on whether I'm home? More specifically, I'm thinking based on whether my iPhone is on the LAN? I tried to come up with a solution using IFTTT, but it seems SH only can trigger IFTTT rules, not receive actions. So I'm wondering if anyone has come up with any clever hacks. (OS X)

I have this setup the way it should work, but it seems unreliable.

I installed the IFTTT iOS app and setup an IFTTT account.
On the iOS Locations channel, I added a geofence recipe which creates a file in Dropbox.
I gave IFTTT access to my dropbox account.
I used Automator to create a "watch me do" workflow that clicks on the checkbox for the rule that I want to enable/disable.
I setup a Hazel rule to launch the Automator workflow when a file appears in my Dropbox folder.
I gave Hazelhelper disablity access.

So, the way this is supposed to work, I cross the geofence, the IFTTT iOS app triggers an IFTTT recipe that creates a file in my Dropbox. Hazel notices the file, triggers the Automator workflow (and deletes the file in Dropbox). The Automator workflow launches Sighthound (if not already launched0, clicks on the cameras button, clicks on the camera in question, clicks on the rule checkbox.

The problem seems to be that the IFTTT execution is unreliable.
