Crash, freeze, requires reboot (restart) Mac every few days

by mikelee » Mon Nov 28, 2016 10:20 am

Hi,

I sent a bug report but have not gotten a reply yet, so posting here to get your opinion.

I have Sighthound running 12 cameras on a Mac pro 12-core with 48gig ram, and plenty of HD space.

Of the 12 cams, I have 5 which are HD cameras. CPU is about 78% idle.

My problem is that it seems to freeze every few days (like every 3-4 days almost consistently). I have sighthound set to load at system bootup. If I am logged in and have sighthound client running it'll freeze after about 3-4 days where I cannot reach it via the app nor website. I can manually restart sighthound, but it'll only run about 20-30 mins then this time crash with an error message (I will need to take screenshot next time). But I think something to effect of resources not available. The only way to get it running for another 3-4 days is to restart the Mac.

This leads me to believe I have some sort of memory leak. But I am not sure. Does anyone else have similar setup as me and are experiencing this?

I am almost on brink of fresh install of my OS, but would hate to still have the problem and it all ends up a wasted attempt if it is on Sighthounds side. I am also thinking about not logging into the user account and letting sighthound run at system startup and see how long it'll last that way, but I have a feeling it'll still happen.

any help is appreciated.
Mike

I have a 2013 iMac with 16 gb ram. So not nearly as powerful as yours, but quite good enough to run SH. I had constant crashing issues and sent several bug reports etc over the last year. Finally my HD died. I subsequently installed a 2tb SSD and SH has run without crashing *ever* for the last couple of months.

It's a guess, but you may have a failing HD.

Best of luck!

PS: Hope I didn't jinx myself!

Tech got back with me with a beta, and it's been fixed, ran almost 4 week without problems...
