Sighthound does save the video 5 seconds prior to the trigger event and at least 15 seconds after the trigger ceases to occur. Presently, there is no way that I know of for the user to control those two values.
You can, however view video prior to and after those times when in "Search mode". Simply drag the marker in the time-line to one end and then click the arrow at the end of the bar to cause the video to proceed back or forward to the next clip to play. (If backing up, you will need to drag the marker back in time so you can then play the video forward.) Of course, this only works if the intermediate video still exists in the data files. The default is to keep this data for a couple of days, unless you have changed the setting for the number of hours to keep raw video files.
EDIT 10/7/2016: I forgot to mention that getting to the raw video between clips only works if you have selected to view only one camera in the list of clips.
Some people set that to 1 hour and thus can only view video from before or after a saved clip during that hour... I sometimes set it to 200 hours so I can see video from the past week, but that reduces the amount of rule saved clips because disk space is consumed by all that raw video.
