Foscam cameras

by fasteddie760 » Wed Aug 03, 2016 3:29 pm

Looks like all the Foscam cameras on your supported camera page are from 2013. Is there a list of newer cameras that work with your software?

Thanks,
Ed

Hello Ed,

That list contains all of the cameras that are pre-configured in Sighthound Video. We only add cameras to this list once one of our employees or customers confirm the correct settings for the stream.

You should be able to use almost any IP camera so long as it has an accessible stream url. If there are any specific cameras you are looking at I'd be happy to look them up for you to see if they will connect.

Regards,

- Devin

Thank you Devin. I have an older Fosacam for inside and now im wanting to upgrade to add outside cameras. Not sure what is good or where to look(brand, POE vs wireless). So far I looked at the Foscams FI9900P and FI9900EP, Microseven M7B57-WPS.

Thanks, Ed

Hello fasteddie760,

Both of those Foscam models should be able to connect using the "Foscam (other H264)" pre-configured setting and the Microseven model should connect using these settings:

Protocol: rtsp
Port: <leave empty>
Stream Path: /11

I've attached an image of how that url should look when manually entering it in to Sighthound Video.

As for camera recommendations - I'm unfortunately not great at this as when I have access to specific models it's usually just for testing and getting to a "does it work" point, rather than getting to review or live with the camera itself.

The only comments I can really make confidently -

* You get what you pay for. The lower end tends to be mostly rebranded or slightly tweaked off the shelf components, trying to compete on cost and skimping everywhere else. For instance, sitting in front of my I have a 3 cameras that all look identical other than the logo, all cost under $100, and are all quite unpleasant to use.

* Read reviews from people who own the camera, whether on amazon or another site. They've lived with it, if they love it or hate it they'll let you know. Be wary of the hate posts for being user error, but if there are a lot it's a bad sign.

* Check out the manufacturer's website. If they don't have one, or it has no real content, avoid. They should have easy access to firmware updates, manuals, and tech support. If they don't, or if there tech support forum is filled with issue after issue, avoid. Axis for example makes it very easy to obtain information and support.

Regards,

-Devin
