The old computer that the software is currently on needs to be retired. Any help is appreciated.

the license can be moved pretty easily from your account page on the website and then reinstall and add it to the new computer. I don't remember the exact steps but its pretty simple. as for moving rules and camera configuration i see no way to do that.
maybe Ryan can shed some light on moving to a new pc.

Hello sightbeagle,

There currently isn't an officially supported migration method but you should be able to copy a few items from the data folder to the new computer to preserve your configurations and rules. Namely you'll want the "camdb" file and the "rules" directory. This article will help you locate the Sighthound Video data directory: https://www.sighthound.com/support/wher ... store-data

I think there may be an error on that web page. I found my data folder on XP in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings\Application Data

I was able to move the rules to the new computer. I migrated from Windows XP to Windows 10. I had the video archive folder on a separate internal drive. When I started Sighthound it asked for the location of the video files. After I pointed them, it deleted all of the old video files from the drive. This was fine by me since more importantly the rules transferred. The one other thing to mention was that on the old computer my computer login user name was different than on the new computer. This caused the data folder to be created in:

C:\Users\<old user name>\AppData\Local\Sighthound Video\ <-- Sighthound created this folder.
All the settings were transferred too, Storage settings and Remote access including the settings to send emails. The only thing that does not work is the remote access. It says Starting... but never starts. Also, across reboots there were other issues. See the update below that address this.

Update: Save yourself some trouble. If you are moving to a new computer make sure that the User account name is the same on the new computer as it was on the old computer. Otherwise you will have the above issue with the data path. C:\Users\<old user name>\AppData\Local\Sighthound Video\ (So for example if your user name [not computer name] on the old computer was Fred, make it Fred on the new one.)

Hello sightbeagle,

I'm glad to hear the migration worked. We have heard from some users that the Windows 10 firewall settings are a bit different and require a few extra steps for remote access. Here are the steps to enable Sighthound Video in the Windows 10 firewall:

1. Click the Start button and type the word 'firewall'
2. Select icon for Windows Firewall to open firewall settings
3. In the left hand side of the settings window, click "Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall" (image 1 - red box)
4. Click "Allow Another App..." button at the bottom of the window that opens (image 2 - red box).
5. Click the "Add" button at the bottom of the window that opens (image 3 - red box)
6. Browse to where Sighthound Video is installed. The "Sighthound Video" folder is typically found on the C drive in "Program Files (x86)".
7. Select the "Sighthound Web.exe" file and click "Open" button at the bottom. (image 4)
8. Sighthound Web.exe will now appear in the "Add an App" window. Click the "Add" button at the bottom to complete the setup.

Note you may need to reboot after completing these steps. If you still are unable to connect please send us a bug report by going to Help > Report a Problem. Be sure to include a link to this post so we know it is you sending the report.

Regards,

-Devin
