Trouble with TRENDnet TV-IP311PI

by mgrob » Sat Jul 02, 2016 7:59 pm

Just got a new TRENDnet TV-IP311PI. Based on posts I had the impression it would work with SH. Also, I upgraded our license to PRO so I could add this camera as our third camera (the other two are AXIS and work fine).

Have been using SH for about a year with good results.

Can't get this new one to work. When I try to add camera, in the 'camera setup' window it does show up on the list - both ONVIF and UPnP, like this:

TV-IP311PI -- 192.168.1.126 [ONVIF]
unknown -- 192.168.1.126 [UPnP]

Then on the next screen I enter the credentials. I have checked these many times to be sure they are correct (and I can access the camera from the browser on the _same_ computer that SH runs on)

However - after I enter the credentials, SH says:

"The camera has experienced an internal error with fault code: ActionNotSupported"

what next?

thanks for any help. Also if anyone else got this camera to work with SH please let us know.

thanks,
Matt

Hello Matt,

There is a known issue in the latest release with adding a few specific cameras when using ONVIF. You should still be able to add this camera manually. Please try adding the camera by selecting "Manually specify the address of a network camera" and see if any of the following "Camera Type" pre-configured settings work on this camera:

* Trendnet IP302PI
* Trendnet (other MJPEG)
* Trendnet (other RTSP)
* Trendnet (other MJPEG - type A)
* Trendnet (other MJPEG - type B)

We have not yet confirmed which stream settings are used with this specific model but it is highly likely that it uses one of the above. For IP address you will need to use 192.168.1.126, assuming the IP address hasn't changed since you last posted.

Regards,

-Devin

Thank you for your reply.

I tried the suggestions - including each of the pre-configured settings - but no luck. Each time after I click "Next" there is a short pause while it shows "connecting" and then it says "Could not connect"

I triple/quadruple checked the camera ip address, password and username - it's correct.

Also when i try "view your camera from your browser" that works, thus proving I at least have the proper connectivity to the camera. Also i upgraded the camera's firmware to the latest version.

I tried several settings for video scale - 320x240, 640x480, etc. same result.

Please lmk any other ideas :)

Matt

Mostly Solved [ was Re: Trouble with TRENDnet TV-IP311PI

Ok it's been a small journey but things are mostly solved now.

I didn't have any luck with the existing Trendnet profiles - for reasons I cannot explain the TV-IP311PI seems to be different from the others. I asked Trendnet customer support - ultimately they were quite helpful.

So the following URL will work with Sighthound and the TRENDnet TV-IP311PI:

http://<ip addr>/Streaming/channels/1/httpPreview

further, the camera appears to create two streams: a "Main stream" and a "Sub stream" and you can configure the parameters for both via the camera's config URL. The solution above uses the substream, which has some limitations - eg highest res is 704x480. But it can do mjpeg, whereas the main stream can only do H.264.

Does SH require mjpeg or will it work with H.264? (I will post separately on this question)

Anyway - it does seems to mostly work now.

quick additional note: Both these URL's will work with SH (main stream and sub stream) - see my other post from this thread

http://<ip addr>/Streaming/channels/1/httpPreview
http://<ip addr>/Streaming/channels/2/httpPreview

Actually it appears both of these URLs are for the substream - haven't figured out a way to use the mainstream yet

http://<ip addr>/Streaming/channels/1/httpPreview
http://<ip addr>/Streaming/channels/2/httpPreview
