Recording alongside PC-NVR

by norcalm » Sun Jun 12, 2016 3:49 am

I have 4x 4MP HikVision cameras that I would like to have a 25fps loop recording for video, alongside with Sighthound to alert me if people appear.

Without knowing much about IP camera technology - it sounds like Sighthound can only record at 10fps, so I will need to use the HikVision PC-NVR (iVMS-4200) software to record in parallel.

Does this mean that when a camera has to send the 25fps recording to the PC-NVR software, it doubles the bandwidth needed since it's already sending it 25fps to Sighthound? Do cameras have trouble keeping up?

Hello norcaim,

Are your cameras and the computer running Sighthound Video connected to the router over WiFi or are they wired? If everything is wired then I wouldn't worry about the extra bandwidth it will take to have the video streaming to two different applications. Another thing to consider is the resolution of the streams. Most cameras support multiple user access so this shouldn't be an issue on the camera side.

Regards,
