question on storage

by cino72 » Sun May 22, 2016 12:59 am

so I wiped out all the video stored in sighthound it currently shows I have one video clips for all objects for a camera but if i go look at the storage location it shows 123 clips 113Mb. those 123 clips have generated within 7 min. Its windy and its picking up a lot of things BUT
i don't understand why none of those clips are listed in the SH application if i choose that camera and look under any rule IE. all objects people ect ect I just have the one clip listed.

I know why its capturing so much so fast but i don't understand why none of the clips in storage drive are listed in the application. I would assume that those clips would be listed under all objects. I also turned off the camera and closed the app so it could do any needed DB clean up. I then reopened the app and rearmed the camera. but right now just while typing this post I have 2 clips showing in the app and 32(252Mb)clips in the storage location.

I have used the app a long time and just never noticed it doing this. it seems it would push off "keep clips" fairly fast once the storage location fills up

I forgot to add the only reason I noticed this because after i deleted all the clips closed and reopened the storage location had 60 Gb used when I expected it to be empty or close to empty

latest version of the app installed 3.XXX

Hello cino72,

Video files in the Sighthound Video data directory and video location are not meant to be interacted with and are not organized by events or "clips" as seen in Sighthound Video. These video files are the "raw" video for each camera. Sighthound keeps a database of events for each rule so that it knows which chunks of video to grab and display for whatever rule or filter you have selected when reviewing your clips. This method is designed for efficiency and so you only have one set of video for each camera (not possible for duplicate video files). If you wish to view or save video outside of Sighthound we recommend you use the export feature.

For more details on how long video is saved, how to manage disk space, and how video clips are divided up, please see https://www.sighthound.com/support/managing-your-video

Regards,

-Devin

I do understand exactly what you are saying. I was just surprised that it had consumed a fairly large amount of data but only had 1 clip.
I am sure it has always worked this way i just never noticed or watched how much drive space was consumed by the raw data before it purged what didn't need for clips.
