What camera do you use with Sighthound?

by champagne » Sat May 21, 2016 12:05 pm

Hi there,

I'm upgrading my swannview system with Sighthound (already got the pro version after testing it with an AXIS P1435-LE) and was wondering what cameras folks are using...

I'm looking for POE bullet cams, the P1435 is really great but at $700 I'm wondering what others have tried and if the quality of the P1435 is really, say, twice as good as a $350 cam...

thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions you may have!

X

I use everything from 700.00 axis to 50.00 foscam and they both work fine. i have been looking at hikvision they seem to have the features but not the cost. I have 1 in use on an Exacq system that has been doing fine. I am 95% sure it will work with SH since you can just about pull any stream in sighthound.

thanks for the reply - what Hickvision are you looking at? Surely there must be a difference in quality between the 700 Axis and the fiscal no?

thanks again for taking the time to send your feedback...

honestly the hik camera is looking at a stairwell that is less than 12 feet in distance. my axis is looking 50 feet. its hard to compare the 2 they both do the same thing but at an 1/8 of the price.
i just found the hik to be a better quality with more features than the cheaper stuff like foscam. i will have to look at the exact model but its a dome. For the best bang for your buck the hik and a few other brands seem to be the best of both worlds. also if you search on google you will finds lots of reviews and compares of those middle of the rd cameras.

I have one of theese https://www.trendnet.com/products/ip-cameras/TV-IP310PI, and are planning for more of the same.
It looks like a generic model many manufactures use.
It is very small so it is not as ugly as the big ones, but has quite a good image and POE.

I ended up getting this one: http://www.trendnet.com/products/ip-cameras/TV-IP311PI which seems to be quite similar to the 310PI.

however no luck with Sighthound. For those who got the 310 to work - can you please elaborate - does your sighthound login to the camera's admin user? or did you create another user? did you get the camera's LiveView to work through a browser? (I did not - i tried on both Mac and Windows10 - loaded the plugin etc).

Also I upgraded the firmware to the latest - that process went fine but didn't solve the above problems.

Anyway if anyone has a Trendnet camera working please elaborate.

thanks

That that, unless you've already solved it.

I use Sighthound at my home so the cost of each camera is important to me. I've tried various cameras, all at the $100-$130 price point. I found a Hikvision on sale for about $90 and bought it. I've since swapped all of my cameras out and am about to buy another one to put in the barn I'm building. Specifically, I use the Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I.

It's hard to beat the Hikvision Bullet 3MP or 4MP cams for the price. Set up can be difficult if you aren't network savy and understand IP addresses. Make sure you get the American versions and you should be fine. Use Fing (free app) for mapping out your existing network IP addresses and for finding these cams on the network. Fing makes setup a breeze with Sighthound Pro, but Sighthound may have their own Hikvision setup/discover by now. Then it's a breeze and doesn't require their software which really blows. They have 3 focal versions and I got the wide angle version and like it. There are some video clips on Amazon showing the quality of these cams. I paid between $85-$120 for 6 Bullets, and I also have 2 of their Dome 3MP Cams, and the 3MP Cube Wireless Cam. All of them have excellent video quality day and night. Night time is enhanced with added IR lighting, especially the Cube Cam.

I use Foscams, Logitech Alerts, and Hikvision cameras.

By far the best quality is my Hikvision DS-2CD2432F-IW. It's 2.8mm lens and 3MP sensor captures a wide area in good resolution. It's also PoE, so just a single ethernet cable is required from my PoE switch.

Just make sure you get the US version.
