Using swann cameras with Sighthound?

Hi there,

A friend of mine uses Sighthound and was raving about the iOS app (or maybe it was just the fact that it worked) and to make a long story short I was wondering if I could switch my existing setup to sighthound.

I have 4 cameras (http://www.swann.com/us/swnhd-830cam) connected to a swann DVR, could I just plug them into TP-LINK 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE and than have my Mac Mini connected to the switch and run Sighthound?

Let me know if you have any thoughts/recommendations,

Hello Xavier,

The page you linked to does say "This camera can only be used in combination with Swann’s Full HD Network Video Recorders for cutting-edge IP surveillance in full HD" in the description, though I did find a post elsewhere claiming you can connect to the stream using the following information:

Protocol: rtsp
Port: <leave empty>
Stream Path: /live/h264

You can enter this in Sighthound Video during the camera setup by selecting "Other IP Camera" from the "Camera Type" drop-list. If you haven't already, you can grab our free 14 day trial at https://www.sighthound.com/download.

I'll try this out - not sure if the port on my mac laptop support POE but it's worth trying - thanks for the quick reply. X

ok so the swannview cameras are not IP cameras and after plugging them in a POE hub it they don't get an IP address so they can't be found by sighthound. darn...

ok and just for the sake of documenting: I bought a new POE hub and this time my cameras from swannview work! (this is the hub I used: NETGEAR-8-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-GS308P-100NAS - Buying a license for sighthound today!
