Since SightHound is what is fetching the video signal from the cameras and then writing it to the disk, the computer must be turned on and executing SightHound. You can turn off the Monitor to save electricity and not have the light of the monitor showing that the computer is turned on or disturbing a sleeping person at night. But the computer must be turned on and running the OS and SightHound. You can also terminate the "user interface" of SightHound and leave the background processes running, but again, the PC must be powered up and active.
