Struggling with remote acess

by gpoulos2 » Tue Jan 12, 2016 6:49 pm

I am a seasoned tech person and have setup plenty of things accessible on the web.
I have a DD WRT router at home.
I have TCP and UDP opened on port 8090 pointing to the ip address of the box with SH installed. Running Windows 7.
I can hit and get to the sites internally on my lan but not externally and not from my iPhone from the SH app.
In tools/options/remote access I have a local and a internal address that both work fine.
I do have the port set as 8090 as well.
Where it says external address it says Trying to connect forever and ever.
So I cannot hit SH from outside my lan.
On a side note I am able to use a IP camera app and hit the camera from outside my lan. So I know its working ok.

Thanks for any tips. :)

Hello gpoulos2,

If Sighthound is unable to open the port in your router the "External Address" will continue to display "Attempting to connect..." even if you manually forward the port. Have you already tried connecting by entering your networks external address with port 8090, despite the status listed in the remote access tab? You may need to test this address from a computer or device that is not connected to the network as many routers will not allow you to connect to an externally facing address from within the network.

If you enter port 8090 in http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ does it appear to be open?

Regards,

-Devin
