SightHound thinks my dogs are people

by beeftube » Sat Oct 17, 2015 11:46 pm

Hi there,

I've got a camera looking at the swimming pool in my back yard. My intent was to use SightHound to alert me when a person gets near the pool (I've got a young child, it would be good to know if our other safety precautions failed).

I've got a rule set that alerts when SightHound detects a person on the pool deck.

However, most days, my dogs run around the back yard. SightHound constantly tags my dogs as people. Not unknown objects, but people. As a result, I get LOADS of alerts on this rule triggering every day.

Is there a way to tweak this? I could tell SightHound to not care about objects below a certain size... but my dogs are bigger than my Toddler, so that's not really an option. The camera in question, for now, is pretty low resolution (VGA) -- would a higher resolution camera help?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. I've got dozens of these from today alone.

Anybody? It's also doing it with squirrels on a different camera. It's actually pretty reliable at identifying squirrels... I just wish it would limit itself to just people!

Greetings,

Sighthound has a dedicated team that is constantly working to improve our detection algorithms. There are a huge amount of variables which can cause false detections and we are doing our best to address these variables and make Sighthound as accurate as possible.

For this case, where we are detecting your dogs as people, it would be helpful to have some of those videos to try against our algorithms as we make improvements.

To keep your videos private, please send them to [email protected] instead of posting them here.

If they are too large to attach to an email, then you can move them to something like Dropbox, and send the link for it to [email protected] and we will download the video files from there.

Thanks,
+ Dev Michael

Hi there,

I'd be happy to send you as many as you need. It seems to do a remarkable job of detecting mammals!

Clips can be kind of large - I may upload them to a webhost and have your support team download them from there. I'll do this once I get back home this weekend.

Thanks for the response, as always.
