Multiprocessor support

by ishmell » Mon Oct 05, 2015 11:26 am

Hi guys,

I have a dedicated Windows XP machine, 32 bit, 3GB RAM. I'm running 2 cameras and it's spiking CPU. I want to add more cameras, but I'm afraid the CPU won't be able to keep up with more cameras. My question is, what are the benefits to the following scenarios;

1) upgrade/reinstall with WinXP 64bit, then upgrade RAM to >3GB

2) install an additional CPU

It appears sighthound's memory use is quite low, it just spikes CPU... so I don't think there would be much benefit to option 1, except maybe if there is a 64bit version of sighthound it may lower CPU use?

So I guess my questions really are;

1) Will upgrading to 64bit OS reduce CPU load by taking full advantage of 64 bit processing?

2) Will sighthound be able to take full advantage of parallel processing if I install an additional CPU?

Thanks :)

Hi ishmell,

My guess is that you're bottlenecked on CPU rather than memory. Changing your OS from 32 to 64 bit will not have an impact on Sighthound's performance, but a faster processor would. You can see some example system configurations and compare your own processor with the systems at the bottom of https://www.sighthound.com/support/system-requirements
