Second install too restricted

by carpe.datum » Thu Sep 17, 2015 12:42 am

I am evaluating SightHound for home use, and am generally intrigued but have two problems. First, it doesn't always capture events that should be completely obvious to the most rudimentary motion detector, and second, it often doesn't let me connect using the mobile app.

It seems possible that these failures occur because the Mac Pro that I installed it on to test it is set up to sleep after a while. So, I've tried installing it on the Mac Mini that runs my home automation system, which is configured to never sleep.

However, on that Mac Mini, I can configure only one camera, and can't connect remotely at all. Restrictions that read "Your Pro Edition trial will expire in 9 days. Purchase a license to continue enjoying multiple cameras, HD video, and remote access." on my Mac Pro read, instead "Purchase a license to unlock multiple cameras, HD video, remote access, and more" on the Mac Mini. There appears to be no way to evaluate your product on any registered machine.

You folks want $250 for one license to this software, and as far as I can tell, it has some serious problems. I believe I have a possible reason, but can't evaluate it on the target machine.

Is there anything you can do to help me complete this evaluation? Under the circumstances I can't see spending $250 for something that appears to have some serious defects.

Never mind. Answered my own question. Delete (including deleting the data and killing the background processes - shouldn't that be done when the app is moved to the trash?), then reinstall using a different email address/second account. Seems like a silly restriction. If a customer is within the eval period, why not let them install on a second machine with the same abilities?

Hi Carpe,

Sorry you encountered trouble with your trial. The automatic trial license system covers most cases but necessarily has some limitations to prevent abuse. We're always happy to issue temporary licenses if someone needs to switch computers or needs an additional trial for other reasons. Hope the trial has been going well for you on your second computer, let us know if we can help with licenses or anything else.

Best,
- ryan
