Manually configure a camera and port forward

by krichards6000 » Thu Aug 06, 2015 8:50 pm

Before I went out of town I tried to set up remote access for my foscam. However, it crashed my camera and had to have it rebooted for me (I am out of town and realized that is crashed after I left). This is a trial version of the software that I am evaluating for consideration/upgrade and before purchasing, would like to insure that it works properly for remote access. My camera is now working fine, I have it port forwarded and can access via the foscam software.

Question, I believe I need to set this up manually:
1) Can I set up the camera for remote access while I am out of town?
2) Do I....add a camera with my port forward IP address like it is a new camera? (tools/add camera/manually specific )OR
3) Do I....add via remote access menu? (Tools/actions remote access) - my concern here is that I am not local so it will not be able to find my local address etc.

I do not want to crash the camera again and have to get someone to go over and reboot for me.

Thank you!

Hi krichards6000,

Will Sighthound be at the same location as the camera running Sighthound Video? If the camera is on the same network as Sighthound Video you will not need to forward a port for the camera itself as you will be able to view it remotely with Sighthound Videos remote access feature (see https://www.sighthound.com/support/how- ... ote-access).

If the camera is in a different location than Sighthound Video then you will need to forward a port for the camera, then connect it to Sighthound as you would any other camera. Please see this article for directions on how to set up Sighthound to monitor a remote location: https://www.sighthound.com/support/sett ... econd-home

Regards,

-Devin

Hello Devin:

Yes, I am on my laptop in San Diego CA. The camera that I want to monitor is on my home network in Seattle Washington. When I was in Seattle I properly port forwarded and am able to see my Seattle camera via web browser using the Foscam software. I would prefer to use Sighthound for the People recognition aspect (versus just motion detection). Unfortunately, the article link stops short of addressing how specifically (with step by step instructions) how to setup the Sighthound Software for remote viewing when I am already out of town. Since it is already port forwarded, you mention that I would just "connect it to Sighthound as you would any other camera". Can you be more specific? Am I to assume that this means to use the "add camera" menu and add the port forwarded address or do I configure using the Options/Remote access menu?

Thank you,

Keith
