Help with Remote Access...what to do when your public IP

by harmer007 » Sat Jul 25, 2015 11:53 pm

Hi everyone. I recently upgraded to the Basic Version after Trial expired. I'm having some trouble with remote access outside my wifi area. Everything works outside and inside my wifi area (I have port-forwarded correctly, I'm putting in the external IP address in the ap....it works fine when my external/public ip does not change).

The problem is my public IP address changes. I also have the Tiny Cam app and was having the same problem there. I signed up for a free dynamic DNS through https://www.noip.com/

After going through registration I was able to put this hostname address into the hostname/IP address tab on the Tiny Cam app to use to forward my external/public IP address through noip.com (from what i understand this program will help when the IP address changes it will forward the new IP through the hostname you created). Anyway, everything works here.

However, when I go to the Sighthound app and put in my hostname ******.no-ip.org (the stars are blocking out my hostname)
in place of the current external/public address along with my username and password it will not work.

So, my question is, how do you make the Sighthound app work when your public/external ip address changes? What information do you need to put in to make it work with the free dynamic DNS service such as noip.com?

Thanks for the help. I hope this all makes sense.

Hi everyone. I got it to work after doing some more reading. I figured out you need to put your port number after your address into the app (such as ******.no-ip.org:8848) then type in your username and password like before.
