Remote Access SSL support

by SUNWfrk » Sat Jun 13, 2015 3:42 pm

I've noticed the remote access site runs on nginx. I think it would be nice if we could enable SSL on it.

I also tried putting an nginx in front of it but it I then receive this from the Remote Access site:
We're sorry, but we cannot seem to connect to the app at this time. Please try again later.

=> maybe something for the 'Hacker's Corner'

Thanks in advance!

Just a suggestion to see if this might help you support SSL - check out letsencrypt.org. New effort to give people free SSL certs trusted by all major platforms / browsers. Completely API-driven and automated. I would think a combination of DDNS and letsencrypt would let you generate proper, trusted SSL certs.

Sighthound Video 3 supports https exclusively (no https). It creates a local certificate for every install so you will have to accept and store this as an exception by your browser once. The mobile app will similarly prompt you to accept the certificate (you can verify the fingerprint against the remote access configuration dialog) and will warn you if the cert ever changes.

If you have a custom certificate you would like to use on the machine you could do so, though you'd need to locate and replace the certificate manually as there is not a user interface for this currently.

Best,

For anyone still following this thread, I've posted a guide to setting up valid SSL certs in SH 3.0 here.

Hi Ryan,

Had some issues with the 3.0.0 version but this is fixed in 3.0.1. Thanks a lot to look into SSL support! Love the new update!

Kind regards,
Bart
