Question: Remote viewing of high rez video

by cbrehob » Thu Jun 04, 2015 1:57 pm

Hello all, I am a day 1 newbie to Sighthound's software. I am loving it thus far but have an important question.

My cameras are set to record in 2048x1536 (max resolution). However, when I view the video from mobile (through a very fast mobile data connection) it can hardly play due to the high bitrate of the recorded file. My other security software (which I don't like) will scale the video down to be streamed appropriately to mobile.

I still want to save my video files in high definition, but I am afraid the only way I can view the high resolution video files is to use Sighthound to save the recordings in 720p or lower quality.

Is there a way around this problem?

Thanks

Hi cbrehob,

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Sighthound Video! As you noted, we do not downscale your video and clips for mobile viewing, aside from the camera overviews. Unfortunately there currently isn't a way to downscale the video only for remote access without lowering the resolution that Sighthound is saving at.

I'd recommend lowering the resolution in small increments to try and find a sweet-spot between quality and file size. In most cases 720 or 1080 is more than enough to make out any important details in a scene.

Regards,

-Devin
