Storage question

by cino72 » Wed May 06, 2015 10:23 pm

I know it cant be as complicated as I am making it.

This is what I have set:
tools> options>Storage
for temp clips and temp video 2500 GB
temporally keep vid for 3000 hours
Video stored on (E:)

Camera A is just saving to the (My computer option) under save and take action

Camera (B) has a rule edit to store video on local folder (G:)

so i can set options like days and and space for temp and clips under options> storage. I cant set any options like hours or space on Camera (B)'s rule edit that is set to store video local Drive G:\

so on options>storage Drive E: I assume it stores everything temp clips, rule clips, everything?
Rule edit storage only saves clips from that rule. How does it know how many hours to store or how much space it has available?

I am just a little confused on storage options I guess. here is a little extra info that might help.
I have two 2TB drives. I started out wanting Camera (A) to record to one drive and camera (B) to record to the other drive. Obviously I could just raid the 2 drives and do it all on the set. sadly my current config wont allow me to set up a raid because the drives are on different controllers.

Hi cino72,

The storage options can be a bit confusing as Sighthound Video uses a unique file management system. Here's a short explanation on the storage settings:

Sighthound Video has two types of data - "cache" or "temporary" video, and “saved".

SV will record ALL video for a certain amount of time, you can set this in the preferences dialog - this is the cache. After the specified period of time has passed SV will automatically trim the video and keep only the portions that matched rules with the "save" response. By default when cameras are added they have a rule "All objects in <camera name>" configured with the save response. These clips will be kept until either your hard drive is full or SV reaches the disk quota set in the preferences dialog. “Saved” clips are then deleted oldest first to make room.

More details can be found here: http://www.sighthound.com/support/managing-your-video

In reference to the storage settings you provided, Sighthound Video will use a total of 2500GB for ALL video (temporary and saved clips). Temporary video (video that does not match your rules) will be kept for 3000 hours. This means that all video, regardless of your rules, will be kept for 3000 hours and any left over space will be used for keeping your saved clips. If you only care about video that matches your rules I'd recommend setting the "Temporarily keep all video for up to ___" option to a low number so that more space is used for save clips.

Camera (B) has a rule edit to store video on local folder (G:)

I believe you are referring to the "Export to a local folder" option. Keep in mind this will export clips outside of Sighthound Videos file management so you will need to manually delete files when space is needed. This is typically used for archival or backup purposes. (see https://www.sighthound.com/support/export-local-folder)

I have two 2TB drives. I started out wanting Camera (A) to record to one drive and camera (B) to record to the other drive.

At this time it is not possible to set separate storage options for each camera.

Regards,

-Devin
