Missed motion

by JustStan » Thu Apr 02, 2015 5:01 pm

I have been using the basic version of SH with two cameras for some time now, while trying to decide if it is worth the big price jump to add my other two cameras. The more I have experimented with it the better it has gotten. Using multiple rules with different carefully-shaped zones ("people" in some zones, but "all objects" in other small zones where people are cut off by landscape and therefore don't appear as people to SH, etc.), I have been able to cut false positives down to an acceptable level, while also cutting down on misses.

However, I have not been able to find any solution to cases where SH just doesn't see any motion, and these cases are still too frequent. There are scenes where someone is very obviously moving back and forth, but SH doesn't see the motion at all. I think the main culprit is contrast. It seems to be most prevalent when the person and the background are both in shadow or both in sunlight.

Is there any solution to this problem? Is there a way to bump up the sensitivity with respect to low-contrast scenes?

Hi JustStan,

It may be possible to adjust the cameras image settings in such a way that these people are not missed, though it's hard to say what adjustments you should make without knowing your scene. I'd be happy to take a look if you would like to send an image or video of a false detection. If you do not wish to share these images on the public forum you can email us at [email protected].

In the meantime this article has some tips on getting the best recognition which you may find helpful: https://www.sighthound.com/support/tips ... ecognition
