Run Sighthound Without Internet

by Geoff » Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:24 pm

I just downloaded the trial, and my PC and cameras are on a private LAN with no direct Internet access. At runtime Sighthound wants me to log in to my Sighthound account. Is there a way to run Sighthound on a private network and skip the Internet log in?

Hi Geoff,

Sighthound Video currently does not support fully offline systems.

I am running SightHound on a closed system. I just bypass the Registration window (click the "X" in the upper right corner), but I already have a license registered from before this internet-only way of registering was implemented.

Of course, I cannot send bug reports and don't get updates automatically. I have to re-download the program on another PC and transfer it via USB memory stick. And I cannot use most of the latest enhancements of remote access and e-mail alerts, etc. There is a banner at the top that says I need to register it, but it is working just fine otherwise.

I think they need to address this in some way to make it easier to run a Pro version of SH on systems that do not have internet access.

Hey Devin,

How long will sighthound run without internet access? If my internet went out for a day would my home still be protected? Thanks

Hi saintjohnny,

A few days of internet loss will not result in your license being removed.

To be clear the system is *very* lenient. Connectivity is a requirement as locally cached licenses do need to be periodically refreshed, but at the current time you could be offline for a month or three and you would not experience any issues.

2.5 Seemed to support a complete offline system, but it looks like the 3.x updates have killed the ability to have a system without internet. Please advise. Looks like I'll need to roll back otherwise.

Specifically logging in was optional, and now you have made it mandatory. Why have you chosen this route? Is there anyway to use 3.x without logging in, I have my lic file.

Hello nwdcben,

Sighthound Video 2.5 also required you to be logged in to a Sighthound Account. It's possible you ran 2.5 for a long enough period of time that the locally cached license didn't expire, but you eventually would have had to connect to the internet to continue running with that license.
