Hey there Sighthounders,
Anybody have any experience with SightHound on the Intel Avoton processors, specifically the Octa-core model? I'm considering putting together a dedicated VM host -- one of those VMs would be dedicated to running SightHound -- but I'm curious how much these processors could realistically handle.
For a frame of reference, I'm currently monitoring a 1080p stream and a VGA MJPEG stream on an Ivy Bridge i5-3750k. My CPU sits around 14% utilized on my desktop -- granted, I have a few other things running on the same machine. That's pretty decent.
I'm planning on expanding to potentially 3 x 1080p streams and 2 x VGA streams. If I use dumb math and scale this linearly (probably not accurate at all), I'd expect somewhere between 40-50% CPU usage.
I understand that a Core i5 is a beefier processor than the Avoton -- however, I'm still curious if anybody has any real world experience with them. I'd love to know if I could dedicate something like 4 Avoton cores to a SightHound VM and have acceptable performance with a few 1080p streams before I spend any money on such a thing. The power usage of the Avoton processor compared to the Core i5 is appealling.
Any experience?
