Ignore objects LARGER than ___ pixels

by GJakobsche » Sun Mar 01, 2015 4:52 pm

I am using Sighthound to monitor my cats. I would like the software NOT to be triggered by people. Therefore, an option to "Ignore objects larger than" a user-selected number of pixels would be very handy.

Thanks,
George

Hi George,

Thanks for your message. I'll pass this feature request along to be considered for future updates. In the meantime, depending on your scene, we may or may not be able to use regions to reduce or eliminate people detected. If the cats are always on the bottom of the screen you can draw a region along the top tell the rule to ignore objects inside the region.

Regards,

-Devin

Thanks, Devin. In some situations, your suggestion would work, but not in mine. I am monitoring a small boiler room/storage room in my basement, in which I have installed an automated cat litter box. I want to keep track of which of my two cats uses it, whether they have difficulty getting in and out, if a cat refuses to use it and "goes" on the floor, and in general how well the cats accept the litter box. I have defined a region within the field of view of the camera, so video clips are stored when the cats enter the room or move about in the region. Necessarily, I go in and out of the the room to perform maintenance, retrieve items that are stored there, etc. So, I walk through the same region, but I'm bigger than the cats, hence my request.

I can foresee the same need if I or another customer wanted to monitor pets to see if they climb on furniture while their owners are away. One would not want, for example, to record clips of people sitting on couches or at a table.

Perhaps I dismissed your suggestion too quickly. You said, "... draw a region along the top [and] tell the rule to ignore objects inside the region." I don't see a choice to "ignore objects inside the region." If I define a region along the top, i.e., above where a cat would appear, and make the rule capture movement that is "outside the region," would the rule ignore my legs and feet, even though they appear outside the region? If so, this may work for me.

Hi George,

It's hard to say which rule configuration would work best without being able to see your scene and where the cats normally move but I'd suspect with some experimenting you could find a decent combination. I may be able to give you more specific recommendations if you could post a screenshot or video of a false detection and one of the cats. If you do not wish to have these posted publicly in the forums you can email me at [email protected]

In the meantime you may find this article to be helpful in configuring your rule: https://www.sighthound.com/support/its- ... many-clips

This feature could be handy to avoid false triggering when the camera switch from day/night mode.
Changes from Color to Mono.
This could be avoided by setting a window for when this happens.
But the time this happens changes with the seasons.
But it also means the camera is offline during this window.

+ 1 on this. I get at least 2 alerts per day for each of my cameras. Once in the morning, once in the evening as they switch color modes. This would eliminate those false events
