Annoying web interface bug

by camera_kat » Wed Feb 25, 2015 10:04 pm

When I have the "save clips" option set under a rule to a different drive, those videos show up on the web interface until the "temporarily keep all video up to" time expires, and then those videos no longer show on the web interface, but are still in the folder that the rule directed they be saved to. Anybody else see this?

Thanks!

Hi camera_kat,

I'm unsure what folder you are referring to as Sighthound does not organize video by rule in the data directory and video in the data directory does not correlate 1:1 with clips that you see in the application. When you view a clip in Sighthound Video it's showing you part of the video source that is saved for the camera. This is done so that if you have multiple rules for the same camera you will not end up with duplicate video. More information on how long video is saved, how to manage disk space, and how video clips are divided up, please see https://www.sighthound.com/support/managing-your-video

If you open the Search view in both the Web UI and the desktop application you should see the same number of clips for each rule. Note that they may be off by a few clips if you opened one search list before the other or if you refresh one list after new clips have been added.

Devin, I have no idea what you mean. This is what I am trying to say.

This is the rule where it instructs sighthound to save the clip to a local folder:

These are the options for storage:

Why are the saved clips not viewable on the web interface after one hour? Does sighthound not differentiate between saved video and temp video?

Hi camera_kat,

The screenshot of your rule shows that you are currently exporting clips to a local folder and do not have the save response selected (mark this clip to be saved on my computer). The Export feature is meant to be used when you wish to save clips outside of Sighthounds file management system for archival purposes or for viewing video in other applications. Sighthound is not aware of clips which have been exported which is why they do not appear in the Web UI as well as the Search View in the desktop application.

If you wish to keep video at D:\video and have it stay within Sighthound's system please do the following:

* Select "Mark these clips to be saved on my computer" for each rule
* Go to Options > Storage
* Select "Move video" and browse to D:\

Devin, the F: drive is a RAM disk for temporary storage, because Sighthound constantly writes to disk. The D: drive is an SSD.

So in effect, there is no way to separate clips in Sighthounds archival management system from temporary video that is always being written?

Hi camera_kat,

As the video files are being created they are stored on your computers main drive and then moved to their ultimate destination when they are complete. There intentionally isn't a way to move where Sighthound writes these temporary video files as if there was any sort of HD failure (removed, renamed, etc..) while video was being written it could result in a corrupt database as well as other errors. Currently you can only move the video folder location which is where the video ends up after initially being written and analyzed.

Could you please ask the developers to add the option of specifying a separate drive path for temporary storage?
