People detected on other objects and other issues

by yozh » Mon Feb 23, 2015 12:06 pm

Hello,

I just downloaded and evaluating sighthound for a project I`m working on.

I like the idea and design, but I`m having some issues with detection.

I have it setup to use 1 camera to get people detection. I keep getting emails with cars, and other objects in the picture. I`m attaching few pictures here to see.

I also have Foscam 9821W which I can not connect to. The camera never shows a picture in SH, I have it working on my NVR just fine and from the camera website its fine as well, I`m using H.264 with default ports, I checked my username and password and thats fine, any help would be appreciated.

Main concern is with people detection, as this would be the main purpose of this software.

For help with the Foscam 9821W do a "Google" search with this line;

sighthound foscam 9821W site:www.sighthound.com

You will get a list of other threads where others have found help (I think).

As for the problem if detecting any object and calling it "People"...

You could set an area within the view that eliminates certain problem areas... Such as that tree at the right side where cars can go behind it and appear as tall narrow motion on the other side and sometimes get called a "People", and to eliminate the bush on the left side where it moving in the wind can sometimes be detected as "People".

There are some other things that can be done to try to narrow down the detection area and eliminate the street where cars generally are. ... such as make the detection to be People "ON" and area or maybe "Crossing a line" that is only in the sidewalk area and not the street. You could reposition the camera to eliminate the tree, or aim it down a bit further to give the yard and sidewalk a major portion of the scene.

(This sounds a bit silly, but if you set an area in the scene and detect only things that are "ON" that area, I'd recommend tilting the camera slightly counter-clockwise [in your case] to get the street to be exactly horizontal in the scene. Often, especially at night, a car and the area illuminated in front of it by the headlights will produce a huge "object" and will, due to the angle of the street, move the bottom of that "object" into the area of the sidewalk and yard, sort of defeating the "motion ON an area" scheme.)

Thank you for the reply...

Forget about 9821W, I just tried adding it again and it worked fine... (not sure what was wrong before)

As far as the area. I set the area that's needed. And camera position is to what that I need recorded. I tried moving the camera, but I miss the parts that I need....

As far as removing the tree, what if I person passes behind it or in front of it ? Also I dont see a way to select multiple regions, just a single one to move around.

You can create multiple rules, each with a different region.
