Remote Arm/Disarm

by shawneric » Thu Feb 05, 2015 3:27 pm

Yes, we can login and manually turn our cameras on and off, but one of the things that have made my impossibly irritated is that Sighthound doesn't have a function for me to remotely turn the system off without having to login to the mobile or web admin panel to turn it off manually. Can we please add this feature? Perhaps it would be best if we added this feature in the IFTTT settings on Ifttt.com as an "action" recipe. That would be phenomenal.

this would bring a lot of value to the software.

Canary security camera software for example has an auto arm / disarm based on when x number of users phones leave the home.

So not just remote arm/disarm, but enabling auto arm/disarm based on who is home using wifi connection or location of the mobiles.

I just installed this app and was going to buy it. However, I realized that I would never be able to keep up with arming and disarming the camera via this Windows interface accurately. So I started looking into ways to be able to have some trigger to know when I am home or not. I immediately thought of my cell phone and wifi. So I began looking at ways to trigger this with Sighthound. That is when google brought me here and I saw joelegg's comment. I cannot stress enough how great of a feature this would be.

This would be pretty easy actually since you guys already have the mobile app for Android, etc. Just make the app(s) and the desktop software talk to one another every X seconds then auto arm the cameras if they can't talk. Hire me for an hour and I can write it. :)

Please do this.

Hello all,

Thanks for your feedback. Remote arming and disarming is something that we would love to add to Sighthound Video in the future. We are always working to improve remote access and will take your feedback into consideration when adding new features.

Regards,

-Devin

HI Devin - what are the chances of this actually happening ? especially with ifttt as an action (then I can connect it to smarthings etc to arm the camera when i'm away).

Thank you

Hi joelegg,

You currently can remotely arm and disarm the cameras using our mobile app, though arming/disarming based on proximity and having Sighthound Video take action with IFTTT are not currently at the top of our feature list.

I really hope this gets implemented.
Would be a very valuable feature to use IFTTT (geofencing) to enable rules in Sighthound!
Devin, if not at the top, do you have any estimate on what priority this is? Are you currently working on it or is it far in the future?

Hi Jepsh,

Proximity arming is not a feature that we are currently working on. We have a long list of features and fixes that we are constantly chipping away at, so it is hard to give even an accurate estimate as to when a lower priority feature will make it into the application.
