distortion in Sighthound

by barrypilger » Fri Jan 16, 2015 1:33 pm

I am experiencing distortion with my AOTE CCTV HD 5MP 2592*1920 1080P POE IP Camera. I have added ?svforcetcp to the stream path with no change in the occurence of the distortion.

The camera uses UC software to access. Here are screen shots of the video settings:

Hi Barry,

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue and thanks for providing the screenshots. What resolution are you saving video to in Sighthound Video? I see from your screenshots that the camera is sending a 5MP resolution which will use up a lot of bandwidth for a single stream and may be causing some packets to be dropped which can cause the distortion you see.

As a test I'd recommend dropping the resolution down to 1280x720 (or lower) and see if the distortion still happens. You may also want to change the Bitrate Control setting to "VBR" to save on bandwidth. CBR will maintain the 6000 kbps whether it's needed or not while VBR will adapt depending on what is needed.

Regards,

-Devin

Hi Devin, that appears to have done the trick. Is the power of my computer to blame here for not being able to handle the 5MP bandwidth?

Thanks.

Hi Barry,

It's more likely that the video stream was losing packets at some point before it reached your computer due to the large amount of bandwidth it was using. If another application or user started using a large amount of bandwidth (Netflix or Dropbox for example) it's possible the network became congested and not all of the information could be sent.

Regards,

-Devin
