Trial version - can't access camera by host name

by jambnation » Mon Dec 08, 2014 4:47 am

The camera configuration screen asks for IP address or host name, but will only work with the IP address (I can connect using the host name in the browser). Our network occasionally reassigns the camera's IP address, so when this happens, I have to look up the address on the gateway and reconfigure the camera in the app. I know the trial only supports one camera in low-res. Is lack of host name support a known limitation of the trial version?

Otherwise, any suggestions on what I'm missing? Thanks

Hi jambnation,

Using a hostname should work if configured correctly. The trial doesn't have any limitations, though the Starter Edition does only allow one camera at a low resolution. (see https://www.sighthound.com/support/what ... n-editions)

Is your hostname redirecting to the IP address of the camera with the port? Depending on the camera, this may cause problems as the configuration page may have be using a different port than the stream. If you could provide the manufacturer and model of the camera I'd be happy to give an example of how this should be configured.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'm using a Foscam FI8918W with the starter version.

Hi jambnation,

If you are able to connect by entering the IP address but not with the host name then it would indicate that something may be wrong with the way the host name is redirecting. I can attempt to find the correct configuration if you could provide the DNS service you are using.
