Moving from Logitech Alert

by dradb » Mon Nov 10, 2014 9:31 pm

As many are aware, Logitech is stopping supply of the Logitech Alert Security system ... with the announcement having been made right after I bought in. I was very concerned as to what to do (as I'm sure many others are) but I've now expanded my system with:

HIKVision POE camera
PL9660-PoE AsokaTech, POE to EOP
Existing Logitech Alert camera
Existing Logitech POE to router
Sighthound (I've dropped the Logitech software)

My system is now working better than ever, with external and local monitoring, email notification and free SMS notification via Google Docs.

Thanks, Sighthound.

I was very surprised that it was so hard to find a POE to EOP, similar to what Logitech uses. I could only find one in the US (USD49) and one in the UK (more expensive). I was even more surprised that it all worked so well :D

I ditched out on Logitech Alert after 2 cameras died on me and they support only replaced one. It just got too expensive to keep replacing the cameras (I think they tried to make the camera too smart, making them expensive and prone to failure).

I have happily switch to Sighthound with 2 cameras (1 of my 3 logitech alert cameras that still work, and a Dahua camera, which works damn good and was 1/3 the price). Sort of bummed about the thought of paying $250 for more then 2 cameras (and not getting the next major revision).

Hopefully they offer upgrade pricing for major revisions (or make the upgrades free).

Hi cnr1089,

We do have a published upgrade policy, and we hope you'll find it to be user friendly and a good value.

Minor version updates (2.4, 2.5, 2.6) are always free and major version upgrades are provided as long as you have an active support & upgrade subscription. One year is included with every license purchase, additional years are $12 for Basic and $50 for Pro. If you bought a Basic license today and 3 years from now wanted to upgrade to Sighthound Video 9.0 (or whatever the current version is) the cost would be just $24 (3 years = 2 missed years of subscription @$12 + the year included with purchase).

More detail can be found here: https://www.sighthound.com/support/abou ... scriptions

Best,
- ryan
