How can we keep recording once a clip is started?

by AlKoch » Sun Nov 09, 2014 10:12 pm

Hello,

I am wondering how to define a Rule where you want an event like "entering a Door" to trigger the creation of a clip but rather than have it stop 10 seconds after entry have it continue until some other even like "Exit the door.

For example, say we'd like to record all activity between the time someone enters a room and leaves the room, including any time they are not moving (say sitting at a desk reading". How can I capture such a thing?

Thank you.

Hi Alkoch,

It's hard to say what the best rule configuration would be without seeing your scene but it currently isn't possible to track just a specific person over a long period of time. If they are the only person that will be in the room I'd recommend using "All objects" as they should be the only person or object moving in the room.

If they have a specific path you may be able to configure a region to track them. Please see https://www.sighthound.com/support/its- ... many-clips for some examples of advanced uses of regions.

Thanks for the link Devin - that looks useful.

I'm a bit confused about your suggestion - probably because I'm still confused about what/how Sighthound is recording. Even if I set the Rule to "All objects" won't the clip stop 10 seconds after they enter the room? Or, are you saying that, your suggestion notwithstanding, there's just no way to "start a clip from a Rule when anyone enters and stop when anyone leaves"?

Thanks

Hi Alkoch,

If you have a rule set to trigger when entering, exiting or crossing a boundary the clip will only capture this single event. If you use a region (anywhere, inside, outside, on top of) the event will be as long as movement is detected within the region and so the clip will be longer.

For example, lets say you have the camera on a door and someone enters, walks in a circle for 50 seconds and exits the door. If you had used "Entering or leaving through a door" selected you will have one 10 second clip of the person entering the door and one 10 second clip of them leaving. If you used the "Anywhere" rule you will see the full 50+ seconds of the person entering, walking in a circle and leaving so long as they don't leave the cameras view.

Got it! That helps.

Thank you.
