Hello,

I am curious (and disappointed) that we apparently can't use Sighthound for just live stream viewing. I have discovered that if you want to view a location you have to have at least one Rule enabled. If you don't then turning On the camera displays a message saying we have to have a Rule that Saves or Notifies.

Is there really no way to watch a video stream without taking up disk space or firing off email alerts? Why would Sighthound require this?

Thank you.

Hi Alkoch,

If there are no rules enable or scheduled then Sighthound does not record or stream the video to save on disk space, cpu, and bandwidth. It is assumed that if you do not have a rule set for a camera at a given time then you aren't interested in what may happen on that camera. Sighthound is designed to eliminate the need for live monitoring which is why most of the features exist to alert you when something important happens and to efficiently save relevant video.

If you would like to log into a video that has no rules set I'd recommend either selecting the "Play a sound" response and mute your computer or set an email alert with a fake email address as you do not have to verify that the email information is correct. Keep in mind this will create temporary video as Sighthound needs to analyze the video to see if it fits your rule and it needs to create the temporary video files to stream for remote access.

Regards,

Hi Devin,

OK, that makes sense. I understand that your "value added" is eliminating the need to sit and watch a live stream - I just though that, given, the "camera infrastructure" that's being put in place it would be nice to occasionally just look over and see "what's happening" at a location. You objective of saving compute resources makes perfect sense!

Thank you.
