Arm/disarm all cameras by calling REST service?

by rsterrenburg » Sat Sep 20, 2014 4:28 am

Hi I'm considering buying Sighthound. For me it's important I can arm/disarm the cameras automatically when the alarm system is switched on/off. Can I do this? Is there a REST service available for doing this?

Hi rsterrenburg,

There currently aren't any features that allow external applications to control Sighthound Video but there are a couple of features which allow you to only record video when desired:

*You can set a schedule on each rule to only record during specific times and days of the week (https://www.sighthound.com/support/set- ... tain-times)
*Our mobile app allows you to remotely turn your cameras on and off at will (https://www.sighthound.com/support/mobi ... id-and-ios)

Also keep in mind you can set up sophisticated rules to only record events that are relevant (any person entering a door.) If you are worried about storage space you can set how long temporary video (video not saved by a rule) is kept and how much total space to use for video. Once the allotted space is reached the oldest clips will be removed. More information on how Sighthound manages and saves video can be found at this article: https://www.sighthound.com/support/managing-your-video

If you haven't already, please feel free to download and test out Sighthound video with our free 14-day trial https://www.sighthound.com/download

Regards,

-Devin

Guess I should have searched better before posting the exact same question.

So yea, this is a deal breaker. I was just all set to pop $250 for the pro license and then went to double check that the system could be armed and disarmed from an external http or json request.

Devin, it's not about storage space. I have 12 cameras around my house. They're all setup on the trial Sighthound to detect humans and notify me through the app and through an email. When I disarm the alarm in the morning and go out to start working around the house, I can't have the system constantly alerting me to well......me :)

I'm somewhat amazed that there isn't an http request that can be issued to do this. Most video surveillance and home automation software can easily accommodate these sorts of requests.

*Really* really want to buy the pro license but this is just too big of a deal breaker.

Hello, I decided to write here a post.

Arm/disarm all cameras is useful, but more useful option would be - Arm/disarm selected (not all) rules, because I'd like always to write all video about what is happening around my hose . But sometimes (when I'm not at home) I need to be noticed about detection. Can you do this in next update?

We do have plans to implement public and published REST APIs down the road, though this will not be in the near term. In the meantime you can certainly hack at the application as some other users have done, though this is not officially supported.
