Avtech AVM542B - wrong stream

by Johan » Thu Sep 18, 2014 4:43 pm

Hi!
We are testing the Avtech AVM542B camera. It works, however we see only the stream from profile 2 (which has a maximum of 1280x720) and not the stream from profile 1 (which has up to 1920x1080).

We use this setting: http://192.168.6.208:88/cgi-bin/guest/V ... 1&stream=1

The Sighthound appears to read the profile 2 stream because if I configure profile 2 to another (lower) resolution, this change reflects in the Sighthound saved file and picture.

Thankful if you have any suggestion how to solve this.
Otherwise, Sighthound seems to work great! Thanks!
Johan

Hi Johan,

The only AVTech camera currently configured in the application, the AVI321, is set to connect to a stream path of /cgi-bin/guest/video.cgi

Thanks for letting us know about this URL, I'm more than happy to add this model to our application if you confirm it works correctly with your new URL. You can configure it by selecting "Other IP Camera" with the following settings:

Protocol: http
Port: 88
Stream path: /cgi-bin/guest/Video.cgi?media=H264&channel1&stream=1

Is 88 the default port for this camera, or was that a change that you made?

Best,
- ryan

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for your answer. 88 is the default port for this camera. I'm still struggling to see the correct stream so please do not publish "Stream path: /cgi-bin/guest/Video.cgi?media=H264&channel1&stream=1" as the right one yet.

This camera has four profiles, 1–4. 1 is up to 1920x1080. 2–4 is maximum 1280–720.
Despite my command above, Sighthound sees only profile 2. There seems to be an error in the string.

I need help to modify the setting to be able to see profile 1 with the 1920x1080 stream. Otherwise (if you are satisfied with 1280x720 or less) Sighthound works great with the AVM452B.
I have tried many combinations, like
/cgi-bin/guest/Video.cgi?profile=1&media=H264
but Sighthound still sees profile 2 despite my efforts.

Thank you so far. /Johan

Hi Johan,

I'm afraid I'm not sure quite what you mean by "Sighthound sees only profile 2". If the url of /cgi-bin/guest/Video.cgi?media=H264&channel1&stream=1 loads a given video stream in any media player such as VLC or Quicktime, that is also the same stream that Sighthound Video will read from that URL. The camera will only provide one feed at a given URL.

If you are seeing 1920x1080 video from that URL in another application, what would indicate to you that Sighthound Video is not? Please ensure you have the "Scale video to:" option set to "Match source". If you had previously set that to 1280x720, all video incoming would be scaled down to that resolution for storage.

Best,
- ryan

Hi Ryan,
I have come a little further here by using the string:
rtsp://192.168.6.201:88//live/video/profile2

If I use VLC and open network with above the 1280x720 stream plays fine. If i use rtsp://192.168.6.201:88//live/video/profile1 , VLC plays stream 1 with 1920x1080 fine too.

However, Sighthound reports "Could not connect" with the profile1 setting. But it connects with the profile2 setting. Do you know why?

Hi Johan,

I don't know why there would be any difference between "live/video/profile2" and "live/video/profile1" as far as viewing from Sighthound Video is concerned - especially given that it sounds like the only difference between the two may be resolution?

If you'd like to try connecting to each from within the app and then filing a bug report from "Help->Report a Problem..." I can see if there are any obvious errors or helpful information contained within the logs.

Best,

Hi Ryan,
I have finally got Avtech AVM542B working on full HD - problem is solved :D

I used this string: rtsp://[ip-address]:88/live/video/H264/profile1

However, I had to manually configure the camera and set profile 2 to anything less than 1280x720. If profile 2 was at the default 1280x720, Sighthound could not read profile 1 with 1920x1080! (Strange because VLC could read it.)

If you like, you could implement this setting as a selectable standard camera to gain other customers.
Best regards
Johan

Hi Johan,

I'm glad to hear you got it working and thanks for sharing your findings. I've added this camera to our list of stream settings to include in the next update.

Regards,

-Devin
