Eating up space on system disc

by khelgason » Sat Sep 13, 2014 4:58 am

Hi there,

I'm having a problem with Sighthound. I am running the program on Mac mini server with 120 GB SSD system disc. I also have a 2TB external NAS HHD. I have diverted all recordings to the HHD but on two occasions the Sighthound and the Mac Mini has stopped working because Sighthound started recording on my SSD system disc, filling it up to the last byte. I had to find the hidden folder under application support and delete the video files from a tmp folder.

Do you know why this happens?

Regards,
Kris

Hi Kris,

From your description my guess is that your external hard drive became unavailable. If video is set to be stored on a remote drive in the event that drive is unavailable Sighthound Video will continue to keep recorded data for some amount of time in the hopes that the target will reconnect. That way if your drive is down for an hour, when it is available again you will have no missing video. You may want to verify that your connection to the drive is secure - either a USB connection that is unlikely to be disturbed, or a stable network connection if a networked drive.

Best,
