Foscam - Not Found

by kbmiller31 » Mon Aug 11, 2014 4:04 pm

Hello,

I have Sighthound running in 3 locations and am having a problem. I have 6-10 cameras linked into the system, and fairly quickly the cameras stop showing up on SH, and they stop responding to their IP Address Web Interface.

For quite some time, I have been using these Foscams without fail, but have depending on them simply doing motion sensing and an e-mail of the images based on schedule.

Since adding SH into the network, the cameras are all dead within minutes and I have to reboot them.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

I'd first check that you are running the latest firmware on the camera, this may be a bug that has been fixed. Sighthound Video simply reads the data the camera provides over a URL, there really isn't anything it could do to cause a camera to hang. This would be a bug onboard the camera, and a fairly serious one - no malicious person should be able to freeze your camera, let alone someone simply viewing the video stream it exposes.

I know we have a couple Foscams that seem to reboot themselves once or twice a day, but this is independent of whether they're being monitored or not. I think I've heard of this occurring with a camera before, but it wasn't to me so I'll have to try to track down the case and see what the manufacturer/model was and what the resolution was.

Best,
