"Lost Video" on Clip Search

by johnesher » Mon Aug 11, 2014 8:26 am

So this morning I walked home from work down the sidewalk, picked up the recycling can, and walked up the driveway. All of that was in view of the camera monitoring my front yard. Yet when I review the clips using rules I've set up (any object crossing a boundary drawn across the driveway) I can't find the clips. Even when viewing from the default Sighthound "Any object in …" saving rule, the results just skip over that whole chain of events. I made a two new rules (crossing a boundary & on top of my region) but neither of them produced the results either. If I go into the archive storage and view the 15 minute recording of the constant feed I can see it, so I know it was recorded.

It concerns me since if I were to try to figure out who "stole" my recycling can, it would appear no one did even though it would be there in one clip and gone later on. I like the concept of Sighthound's 24/7 recording with screening for quick viewing of events, but now I'm not so sure I want to pay $250 to miss people walking up and down my driveway. If I have to watch the full 24/7 recordings at 8x speed, I'll just go back to Security Spy.

Any thoughts as to why this might be occurring?

It's hard for me to provide any insight without knowing your scene. It could be that you were very far away and small in the scene and simply not scene by the application. All video is present for a time period defined in the options/preferences setting "Temporarily keep all video for up to X Hours".

In the search view select a single camera from the "Camera:" dropdown and you'll see blue and green regions in the daily timeline bar. The blue regions indicate where events matching the current "Look for:" option occurred, and the green are video present on disk but not matching the current search. You can click into the green areas, or press play/next frame when reaching the end of a clip which has nonmatching video occurring directly after. Also, frame back at the beginning of a clip.

The daily timeline is circle 9 in the labeled image in this help article: https://www.sighthound.com/support/search-view

Note: Apologies, had somehow missed in your message you had manually looked through files before writing the above and saw before submitting. Preserving the above as it may be useful to you or others. Is Sighthound Video has much more advanced detection and tracking compared to other options, but it is not perfect. It's something we're dedicated to working on and improving. Without seeing your scene my best guess is that the object may be very small relative to the video frame (<15% of the height?) which is not a scenario Sighthound Video is currently optimized for.
