Choppy video?

by Rgashton » Thu Aug 07, 2014 1:11 pm

Hello,

My recordings from Sighthound appear to be slightly choppy? I've played the recorded video in the Sighthound app on the computer as well as played the video in VLC. Both present the same amount of choppiness. The live view in Sighthound demonstrates the same amount of choppiness also.

To make sure it wasn't just the computer I tried a second time and took a simultaneous recording directly from the camera's web portal. Essentially, Sighthound recording and the camera itself recording at the same time. (The camera was recording directly to the computer's hard drive.)

I played both identical recordings in VLC back to back and the recording taken through Sighthound was still choppy while the recording taken directly from the camera was fluid and seamless.

The connection is wireless through a new/current gen Airport Express base station (no other device on the network.) The computer is a 2.66 core 2 duo and the camera is a Hikvision 2732 dome set to 1080p resolution (no other cameras connected.)

Is there a setting I should change or modify to get smoother playback/recording from Sighthound? Could it still be too much for the computer to handle, even though the direct recording from the camera was flawless?

Thoughts?

Hi Rgashton,

Does the choppy video appear to be a low framerate? Do you see any warning icons in the monitor view, or is the CPU is showing as fully utilized in task manager or activity monitor?

We'd be happy to take a look at your logs if you could submit a bug report by selecting "Report a Problem" in the Help menu.

Hey Devin,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I just sent the bug report to you. Yes, it appears to be a low frame rate. There is a small triangle with exclamation point that appears sometimes, below the small live view window on the right hand side (not always though and quickly goes away.)

I tried hovering over the icon and clicking it but nothing happened. Is that icon to alert me of a maxed out CPU or that there was movement in the picture?

Watching Activity Monitor while the rule is enabled/video is recording, both cores of the processor appear to fluctuate between 60-95%.
