Remote access with computer off?

by celengumman » Tue Jul 22, 2014 1:41 pm

I recently bought a wireless IP camera and is currently trying out different tools to be able to monitor my house while away from home. Sighthound seems to work well, but it seems that the remote access to the camera via the app fails as soon as Sighthound is turned off on my local computer. It seems that the port that I manually opened in order to get remote access, closes if Sighthound is turned off.

Since I don't want to leave my computer on when I leave home (due to the risk of fire), I would like to know if it is supposed to be like this (Sighthound must be running on you local computer in order to get access via the app) or if I simply got some settings wrong. I thought that it would work without the computer on since the router is always on. Is there any other way to enable remote access without leaving the computer on? Any other tool where it is enough that the router is on?

Thank you very much in advance!

Your computer must be on for Sighthound Video to run, and Sighthound Video must be running for remote access clients to have anything to connect to.

Okay, thank you for a quick response! I will continue looking for something that works for me then.
