Making Dog Sensor

by asroth » Wed Jul 16, 2014 8:23 pm

Hi,

I am using Sighthound to see what my dog is doing when we are away. With that said is there a way to make it so that it only starts recording if our dog triggers it and to ignore everything else?

Thanks for your help.

All video is recorded for the duration specified in "Temporarily keep all video for X hours" in the options/preferences. After that the video is trimmed to preserve only segments marked to be saved by a rule. Those preserved bits of video are kept as long as possible until the disk space quota set in preferences is met.

I did, and I thought I did an alright job of explaining that Sighthound Video always records, but will only preserve the clips you care about through your selection of rules. That would cover the "How do I only keep videos where thing X I care about happens" question I interpreted the original post to have. If there is anything that I can explain better let me know.

Sorry, am in a bit of a bad mood. Maybe it's all subjective but I read the question...

"is there a way to make it so that it only starts recording if our dog triggers it"

more as "how can I make it trigger when the dog moves, and not when birds fly by, trees sway, etc"

I'm not sure if you're having any specific problems or how much you've used the product, so along the lines of your interpretation I'll suggest the following general items -

If you haven't downloaded and used the software you can grab it from our main page. The Starter Edition is free indefinitely and you'll also get a free 14 day Pro Trial on first run.

Documentation on the rule editor can be found here - http://www.sighthound.com/support/rule-editor

Troubleshooting for region/boundary rules can be found here - http://www.sighthound.com/support/regio ... t-i-expect

And I might suggest skimming the reference guide as a whole, as Sighthound Video operates a bit differently that other applications and has some extra features you might not expect as well.
