Previous versions

by scobo68 » Fri Jul 11, 2014 11:34 am

I have noticed with the recent update that the video, although it says is "resizable," is not in a manner that is as stated. It resizes only horizontal, and only the window, not the actual video. The video remains the size equivalent to the small on previous versions even if the window is made larger and creates a black border on each side of video.

I understand with updates there will always be some hick-ups. In the event this happens to better serve your customers it would be beneficial that previous versions be made available for download or create an included way to roll back the install to previous version.

I personally don't enjoy paying to be a beta tester and prefer a version that performs to my needs. It is fine when there are bugs as long as we are able to go back to a fully functional version until those bugs are worked out.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm not sure what bug you're encountering? What resolution is your monitor?

Aspect ratio must be maintained for the video, and black bars will be added on the side where the playback area is larger than can be used, as it would with a widescreen video on a standard tv or monitor.

It sounds like perhaps your window is maximized vertically, or the video would be growing in the vertical direction as well. If this is the case, 'large' in the previous version actually would have been a bug on your screen, pushing controls entirely off screen rendering them fully inaccessible or partially obscuring them. An upcoming release of the software will include alternate control layouts that allow for larger playback areas on smaller screens (and medium and large screens as well).

I am running 1280x720 resolution because that is what works best to keep text at a size that is readable.

Yes the screen is maximized and the video can only be adjusted horizontally, but the video size does not increase it just adds the black bars.

I tried the "recommended" setting for video on the monitor 22" widescreen monitor, 1920x1080, and yes the video image can be larger, but the computer screen for the rest of things (outside of sighthound) are too small for my eyes to read, and even with "large text." So a higher screen resolution is out of the question.

What I do notice is that in the prior version when the image was large, the speed and time bar was not visible. It was only visible when small image was selected. Now those are fixed and force the video image to expand only horizontally.

Nothing on my system has changed just the update to the security software. As a result to a software change, I now cannot view a large video in monitor view whereas before the update I could. To imply it is a bug on my screen isn't appreciated. Something else seemed to have changed in the software by taking away the fixed video sizes and permitting the adjustable size since it no longer resizes vertically as well.

One more thing, you missed a KEY issue I mentioned, ROLL BACK of software. I saw in another thread you avoided addressing that question as well.

I know software is always evolving, and sometimes people encounter "hick-ups" since you cannot plan for every person's system.

I do appreciate everything you guys/gals? are doing and the improvements are great for the most part. It is just when a feature doesn't work with a particular setup it would be great to revert to one that did.

Hiya,

I never implied that your screen resolution was a bug. I'm sorry if it was taken that way. I inquired about what trouble you were seeing and asked about your screen resolution to help determine what exactly was occurring. What is clear to one person might not make sense to someone else trying to help troubleshoot over text, and more information can help ensure everyone is on the same page.

I tried to elaborate on what the problem may be (and seems to be) to further explain what is occurring, not to imply there is anything wrong with your computer. Hopefully that explanation makes sense - previously there was a bug in that controls could be forced off the screen with no way to scroll to them. I'm not sure in the current system where you would expect the video to grow to in the current arrangement as there is no more vertical space (it would have to incorrectly render controls inaccessible again). I also noted that we've made layout changes and added settings to allow even more space to be available for video playback in an upcoming version.

I don't have any problem with you re-installing a previous version, but there is no automated way to do this. I will send you a message with detailed instructions.

Sorry Ryan, I had misread this

"'large' in the previous version actually would have been a bug on your screen, pushing controls entirely off screen rendering them fully inaccessible or partially obscuring them."

You were correct, that is how it was on previous version, the speed control and time index were off screen when in 'large' view. So that 'bug' was actually a nice feature :)

I guess we were looking at an elephant from two different directions, you from the head, me from the well, the other end. But re-reading yes this is the issue "previously there was a bug in that controls could be forced off the screen with no way to scroll to them."

Can it be implemented to force the size of the screen and provide a scroll? If not even the force size is better IMO for those running lower resolutions for what ever reason that may encounter the same problem. The simple workaround was to decrease size, change speed, then increase size again. Although more steps, it provided a large video image.

Again it is appreciated that things are being done to improve. It was frustrating being stuck in a never improving VitD for a while.

In regards to installing previous versions, I checked the download section and it only had the current version. In order for people to roll back on their own, it would be nice to have older versions available as well. Not all have saved the older version, or like myself have too many hard drives with too many files and locations and too few working brain cells left. It is on there, just a matter of where. Search can at times take quite a while.

Thanks.
