Remote Access Problem

by Ed0909 » Sun Jun 22, 2014 9:43 am

Hello,

I'm trying to access Sighthound via my iPhone 5c with no luck. The desktop client is installed on a Mac. I've read several other similar posts, but still no luck. I have left the http:// off of the address on my iPhone and am on my internal network using the internal network address. I can access the video feed from my iPhone by directly accessing the camera's IP address via my browser, but when I try to connect to the iPhone Sighthound app it doesn't work. I get an error message after about 15 seconds saying that the connection to the server has timed out. Even though I know it shouldn't help, I also tried using the local address instead of the internal one. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I currently have the free version of Sighthound. I'm trying to make sure it works before I buy the full version. So far, the email alerts work, but the remote access app doesn't. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Ed0909,

I'm sorry to hear you are having troubles connecting with our mobile app. Do you have the OSX Firewall enabled on your Mac? You will need to disable the firewall to use remote access. For more details on this, please see http://www.sighthound.com/forums/topic11526?hilit=firewall#p14266

If the above does not apply to you: are you able to connect to Sighthound Video by using your iPhone's web browser?

That did the trick. Thank you. A few more quick questions for you:

1) I can't find an option to configure alerts via the iPhone app. Is this just because I haven't yet purchased the full version of Sighthound?

2) I have configured email alerts, but the picture quality is pretty poor. Is this just because I haven't yet purchased the full version of Sighthound?

3) The video which I see on my phone is delayed by about 10 seconds. Is this normal? Any ways to prevent / minimize this delay?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Ed0909,

I'll do my best to answer your questions:

1) At this time there isn't a way to configure alerts via the mobile app but you can turn them on and off in the settings menu. Adding more functionality to the mobile apps is something we would love to do in a future update.

2) The images in your email are currently limited to 320x240 because you are using the starter edition. In Basic and Pro they are sent at 640x480. Higher resolutions for people for whom file size and storage are not a concern is something we would like to look into in future updates.

3) There is a slight delay due to a number of small steps in the process: Pulling your cameras stream to Sighthound, processing the stream and creating the video file to stream to your phone, receiving the stream on your phone, plus any buffering on the device. Network congestion or bandwidth issues can also add a few seconds on.
