getting alerts outside my specified zone

by manonmoon » Thu Jun 19, 2014 4:02 am

Hi,

Using the fantastic free version at the moment and plan to upgrade after testing.

I have created an area to monitor and it is working well however I receive occasional alerts for movement clearly outside the area I am monitoring. Why is this? In the attached image, the car has been detected, even though I am monitoring for people in the driveway only.Other cars pass yet I get only these occasional 'out of monitoring zone' images emailed to me! Why is that?

Also, i only want action taken within my specified area, however videos and photos are being taken for any movement within entire camera view. How can I switch this off so that the only action occurs when a person enters my specified area (already set up and is working).

Thank you very much.

Glad you're enjoying the software! Thanks for the compliments.

It will likely help to know that for normal region rules the center point of the object is used for tracking. For "on top of" regions, the middle point of the bottom edge of the bounding box is used. You can select "View -> Show Region Zones" to see both the region you have drawn and the previously mention points drawn on the object boxes.

More information can also be found in this article: http://www.sighthound.com/support/regio ... t-i-expect

As for the object type misidentification, I'm afraid we're not perfect, but rest assured that we're hard at work on our next generation algorithms that will hopefully help alleviate this issue for you.

I have a similar problem and at least partially solved it by tilting the camera(s) to get the street to be horizontal in the scene. In your case you would need to tilt the camera to the left to get the left side of the street higher in the scene.

Because the software always treats the area where motion is detected as an orthogonal area, if it is long and traveling diagonally in the scene, the bottom (or center) can sometimes appear much lower in the scene than where the true bottom (or center) of the object is. By tilting the camera, this "squares up" the object and shrinks its apparent vertical height to keep the bottom (or center) out of an area that is defined in the lower portion of the scene.

Of course, this can make it look like a person walking on the driveway is leaning to the side, but they are usually tall enough that the bounding rectangle around them is still taller than wide and so is usually detected as a "Person" and not just an "Object". Might have to compromise on the amount of tilt to keep things right.
