Auto-Switch main display to camera that has motion.

by Semper Vaporo » Wed Jun 18, 2014 9:16 pm

With my present setup, if I am sitting there paying close attention to the thumbnail video images and can click on them, I can watch a person on the main view as they walk around my property, going from one view to the next.

I have been thinking that it would be nice if one could set a flag in any rule to have the main display switch to that camera when the rule is triggered, but I fear it would be too slow to react. As it is, the Alert Sound from a rule often plays long after Elvis has left the building.

Would it be possible to have an early detection of motion to automatically cause the main display to switch to the camera with any motion, without the delay caused by all the extra work a Rule goes through (updating the database, scheduling the sound function, etc.)?

I realize that busy scenes on several cameras might cause too much swapping of the view, but in simple situations it could be very handy, and maybe a way could be implemented to force any one camera to remain for at least X seconds before another can be swapped to the main display.

And maybe a quick and simple way to enable and disable the feature for individual cameras??? (Like the Power Button on each one, now.)

Nice feature..

I think some of the elements that you are looking for could be combined with what I asked for in the PTZ thread http://www.sighthound.com/forums/topic11541#p14444

Basically what I was looking for there was a rule that could be applied to make the camera pan/tilt/zoom when a boundary was crossed or an area entered etc, this attribute could also have an option to 'switch main view window to camera [x]', that would do what you require.

With regard to your prioritisation of processing steps, then the rule builder interface looks like a flow chart, and therefore it would make sense that these different tasks could be re-ordered in that view so that you could decide on a rule by rule basis the sequence of actions taken. I'm hoping the flow chart capability is expanded upon - its a nice feature.
