Multiple Home monitoring

by Behman » Sun May 18, 2014 1:19 am

I have Sighthound pro with 4 cameras running at my vacation home, I am in the process of installing cameras at main house, any way I can access all cameras from one remote app or install two versions of the app I really want to avoid having to login separately each time I want to with home views. I understand I will likely have to buy another pro version any discount for 2 purchase? Any other ideas on how to accomplish this, I presume as many use to monitor second homes the natural progression is to monitor multiple sites.

Hi Behman,

You can access cameras from another location if you set up port forwarding on the router they are connected to. For example, lets say your vacation homes external address is 75.75.75.75 and you forward port 8888 for "camera a". From any other network you will be able to enter "75.75.75.75" in the camera IP address and port 8888 to access "camera a" in the camera setup.

This website has port forwarding directions for a large variety of routers: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm You can find your external ip address by going to http://whatsmyip.org.

If your camera uses rtsp, you will need to use port 554 as the "internal" port and for http you will use port 80. If you are unsure which to use, you can just forward both and try them.

Ok I see that would work but would use way too much bandwidth and slow everything to a crawl. I am OK with buying a second licence but really don't want to have to log out and in on my phone to switch views. Cloning an app doesn't seem possible without jail braking the phone and other complications. Could you add a second log in to log into two separate locations at the same time? Alternatively could you post an a second version of the app with a slightly different name i.e. sighthound 2 home to access a second installation quickly and easily without logging in and out?

Hi Behman,
Better support for multiple logins, in conjunction with making the mobile app easier to set up and use in general are both on our wish list of items to add in a future release.

Sounds good can you add a 2 version of the app to iTunes in the mean time.
