Will the remote access function operate when using the free version?

Hi Bill,
The remote access feature, as well as our mobile apps, will work with the free Starter Edition. You can download the Starter Edition at http://www.sighthound.com/download.
Instructions for using the remote access feature can be found at http://www.sighthound.com/support/topic/remote-access

Devin, I ask because I am unable to gain access from my iPhone (error connecting to the server). I have opened the port manually and can get to the camera through any browser, but plugging the IP address and the port # just gives me the error. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

make sure you use the right ip , the local ip can give access via local network over web but wont work off your network .

Hi bill,
Are you using the "external address" link in the remote access tab, or did you have to manually forward a port? If you manually opened a port, you can use the following website to verify that the port was successfully opened: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

Please try temporarily disabling all security software (antivirus, firewall etc..) including those that come with your OS, such as Windows Defender or the Mac OS Firewall. If you are now able to connect you will need to configure your security software to ignore Sighthound Video.

See this article for directions on adding Sighthound as an allowance: http://www.sighthound.com/support/firewall-settings-windows

Devin,
Yes, I opened the port to the camera manually and have accessed it through browsers
internally and externally. In the APP I am using the external address of the camera (and associated port #). Is that what I should be using,or is the iPhone APP suppose to
connect the PC APP. If that's the case, then I am not sure what the IP address should be.

Hi bill,
The mobile app connects to the desktop app, so you will need to enter the external address of your network (should be the same as your camera) along with the port that you have Sighthound Video pointed to. Please see the following article for more details on how to enable remote access in the desktop application: http://www.sighthound.com/support/how-enable-remote-access

Note that the iPhone app currently has a bug in which you need to leave "http://" off when entering the ip address. For example, http://75.75.75.75:8080 would need to be entered as 75.75.75.75:8080. We hope to have a fix implemented shortly.

Devin,

Thanks for clearing that up. I was using the camera port#. All works fine now.
